Halal Hemp was founded by the Malaysian princess Tengku Chanela Jamidah with the mission to introduce hemp and destigmatize plant medicine among the Muslim community. We wanted to create a fun visual identity for their e-commerce website that also acted as an informational guide into the world of halal products and CBD.

We created a series of visual markers that were inspired by Islamic art and architecture. We particularly drew inspiration from Arabesque and Muslim Architecture in the near East to create a series of frames and visuals for the website. The website needed to remain simple when it came to UI, as the design was limited by a set template, so we needed to find clever ways to make it look more complex. For that we stressed on the importance of visual treatment for photography and added small details such as typographic stickers and Arabic lettering. We also reworked the language to make it fun, approachable, and relatable.

To stress on the educational aspect of Halal Hemp, we dedicated a page to act as a CBD guide that highlighted the difference between CBD, weed and other psychoactive drugs.

Halal Hemp today is the world’s first Halal Certified marketplace curated by and for muslims that seeks to destigmatize plant medicine and to heal muslim communities.
